Republican Matthew Leber Is Running for South Carolina House!!!

Former combat veteran Matthew Leber told Breitbart News on Saturday that he's running for the South Carolina House of Representatives in District 116 to be the normal guy who takes on Democrats and establishment Republicans.

Leber discussed New Jersey state senator Ed Durr's inspiring victory over the state's previous senate president with Breitbart News Saturday presenter Matthew Boyle. "After 9/11, I spent eight years as a paratrooper and two years in the Special Forces. I worked for a number of different government agencies. "I'm just an ordinary guy like Ed, and it's incredibly inspiring," he remarked. "It just goes to prove that things like this may happen." And we're putting on the most effective campaign we can."

While on the campaign trail, Leber told a story about a local woman who complained to him about growing inflation, and how it made him feel responsible. "You know, Matt, the sense of obligation just overtook my spirit and body, and I told myself, 'You know what, I'm going to win this campaign for that little old lady and all the other thousands in my area that need conservative representation.'"

Boyle pointed out that Leber's district had been served by Democrats for a long time, but that they voted for Trump in 2016.

"It's a conservative approach." Trump did win, but it was a razor-thin victory. "It's mostly a purple district right now, but we're anticipating a red wave in the future," Leber added. "So we think it's time for the normal guys to stake their claim as well, and not just the establishment politicians get to ride this tsunami of public discontent."

"I often say that Columbia already has enough lawyers in the legislature; they need more paratroopers." So that's why I'm on the go. "I'm just an ordinary man," he continued.

When asked what could be done to oppose federal vaccine mandates and out-of-control expenditures, Leber stated, "I feel like we need to protect the state of South Carolina against those mandates and other overreaches by the federal government." He talked about how South Carolina could declare itself a "sanctuary state."

"So, you know, there are pieces of legislation that would create some sort of sanctuary state where we would be able to evaluate and look at these unlawful orders that are coming down." And if our Attorney General and the legislature conclude that whatever presidential order has been issued is unlawful, we can prohibit local police from enforcing these laws."

"She's not necessarily one who cares very much about constitutional rights," Leber said of his Democrat opponent, who does not favor constitutional carry. "That's a major contrast between me and her," he continued. I'm a firm believer in the rule of law. I believe in people's rights, and governments should preserve those rights."

Boyle interrogated Leber about his background as a combat veteran and demanded further details about his story.

"I was in the military for eight years. The majority of it took place outside of the United States. It lasted five years throughout Europe. I spent a year in Bosnia and Herzegovina. So my entire life has been dedicated to serving my nation, and I'm overjoyed to be able to now serve the beautiful state of South Carolina, which I'm eager to do."

After watching the events of the 2020 election develop, Leber said his wife persuaded him to run for state representative. "One day, my wife, a combat veteran herself, walked in and said, 'If you don't run for state house, you're sleeping on the sofa,'" he added.

Boyle mentioned a monthly meeting of conservatives in South Carolina and asked Leber for guidance to people in other states who are dissatisfied with their local government.

"We all had a hunch that the red tide will occur in 2022, and the average Joe should file a claim," he said. "Democrats should no longer run unchallenged for these seats." We also need to find good applicants and provide them with support."

Leber wasn't afraid to criticize the Republican establishment. "I want to win so I can rebel at a greater level, not just against the Democrats," she says. He claims that "some of the more established Republicans don't necessarily get it."

Leber then chastised his opponent for raising money mostly from outside the state. "You know, Democrats are quite good at sending money through Act Blue. 66 percent of my opponent's funds come from outside of South Carolina, from areas like San Francisco, New York, and Washington, DC. So far, I've gotten 90 percent of my money from the state of South Carolina."

As the conversation came to a close, Leber advertised an oyster roast his campaign is hosting on Saturday and paid tribute to his father, who recently underwent bypass surgery.
